SECOND POST: SIR RUN RUN SHAW’S NEWEST SONNET

SECOND POST – February 3, 2012 – MERCURY NEWS CULTURAL INSTITUTE IS PROUD TO PRESENT SIR RUN RUN SHAW’S LATEST CONTRIBUTION:

                                            COFFEE IS NOT MY CUP OF TEA

Every day a comely lady tells me she just finished
Some orb-shaped pot with lots of grinds and so much caffeine in it;
But if the truth be told; if honour dallies with veracity;
I’ll tell her plain: that coffee’s not – my bloomin’ cup o’ tea.

I’m sickened by the sight of a Starbuck’s at every corner;
Of Bigby’s parlours and fly-by-nights belonging to Jack Horner;
Of Juan Valdez picking beans along a deep Andean valley;
When what I want is tea that’s brewed and steeped by Strumpet Sally!

Bags, bags, bags! I’m haunted by those little bags!
What horror to be drowned in cups tinged by Ceylon’s hags!
Oh, Lipton is a terror for those who patronise Tetleeeee
And please remember that coffee’s not my blinkin’ cup o’ tea.
