THE IRONIES OF SYRIAN POLITICS; THE BA’ATH AND RUSSIAN BOOTS ON THE GROUND

This is one of the three founders of the Ba’ath Party, Michel Aflaq.  Along with Salaahuddeen Al-Bitar and Zaki Al-Arsouzi, they established a Pan-Arab political party committed to fighting imperialism and uniting the Arab World.  They were secularists through and through.  Aflaq was a Syrian Orthodox Christian, Bitar was a Sunni Muslim and Arsouzi was an Alawi from the Iskanderoun region, now occupied by the Turks.  It was their legacy that kept Putin at arms length……… for a while.

The Syrian conflict started in March 2011 in the southern agro-center of Der’ah.  It is now late September in 2015,  4 and 1/2 years later and the war has gone from a series of demonstrations mixed with cunningly deployed snipers, whose task it was to kill civilians while blaming it on the Assad government, to a full-fledged foreign-backed war designed to overthrow the legally elected government of Dr. Assad and supplant it with a backward (read: malleable) Wahhabist regime of obeisant monkeys and cockroaches.   That is the Neo-Con/Zionist plan hatched in the Western capitals of the so-called First World.  It has been a disaster no less agonizing than Bush’s mutton-headed decision to invade Saddam’s Iraq.

The Ba’ath is a secretive organization and political party whose roots can be traced to the Post-WWI ideologies of scientific socialism, the war against oppression and the need to survive the machinations of the unreconstructed colonialist regimes in France and England.  It was born in the cauldron of secrecy – opening up only to those who reached levels of trust established through a record of sacrifice for Arab nationalism.  It was also deeply committed to never repeating the nightmarish mandates which gave the French and English license to tyrannize the people of the Middle East.  We have an in-built, perfunctory abhorrence of foreign boots – even if their soles were attached in a friendly country.

What is ironic is that for over 4 years, the Western mainstream media kept repeating a mantra which, for a while, augured the imminent collapse of the Syrian government and the rise of “moderate” forces supported by “democracy loving” states like the USA, France, Germany, Turkey and even included the monumentally despotic regimes of Saudi Arabia and Qatar.  You remember the lines from the beginning of the crisis: “embattled”, “surrounded”, “tottering”, “ineffective”.  And even more hilarity was sprinkled on the stories with references to the “moderate”, “progressive”, “secular”,  “enlightened” opposition, terms used to describe the inept army defectors who would soon be complicit in massacring and/or expelling minorities as a contribution to the process of establishing an Islamic thingamajig with “Shari’ah Law” as its jurisprudential compass.  Much of the irony lies in the Western and Eastern support for the same group which killed over 3,000 Americans on September 11.  But, that was water under the bridge.

Just as ironically, while the Western media was slathering one layer after another of nonsense about the fall of the Assad government, Syria’s own military experts kept repeating that the war would end soon, a position which resulted in the presidendent, himself,  making predictions which would turn out to be unrealizable.

When the Russians did not deploy troops to Syria, the Western media – and even Obama’s advisors – assumed that the Russians would come around to Washington’s game and acquiesce to the ouster of Dr. Assad in exchange for a lifetime supply of SPAM and American television serials.  Ironically, during all this time, the Chief of the Russian General Staff, General Gerasimov, had in place a plan to deploy Russian troops and equipment to Syria when the time was right.  The time would be right when the blithering Syrians would ask for such assistance.  Since March 2011 until very recently, the Syrians refused to ask for such help.

He is said to be hard-lined about everything.  General Valerii Gerasimov, seen here delivering his patented scowl at a military parade.

When the Russians finally began sending a potent military force and advanced equipment to Syria, the Western Press added to its miserable record of miscalculation by attributing the assistance to the failures of the Syrian Army – conveniently forgetting that the army was generally successful in all its engagements with the terrorists and forgetting the very inconvenient fact that Dr. Assad was still in power after 4 and one-half years of their misreading the crystal ball or Ouija Board which they used to predict the outcome of his stewardship.

But, irony begets irony.  You see, it wasn’t the military situation which necessitated the Russian build-up in Syria, it was the Russian dream of having a naval base in the warm waters of the Mediterranean Sea and a forward army base in a friendly country which brought about the seeming intervention.  Ironically, the Russian deployments were not to prop up the Assad government, per se, rather, it was to secure the base once the very xenophobic Syrian Ba’ath leadership decided it wanted to end this war more quickly.  It was only then, when the Syrian government finally decided to make the move toward internationalizing its war against all of ISIS, the United States, NATO, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, that the formal request went out to Moscow for immediate deployment of Russian troops and advisers.  In fact, here’s the most ironic twist, the Ba’ath had to accept what it was loath to for decades: a foreign presence on Arab soil for a long period of time in order to pay for the vast supplies of advanced weapons the Russians were now willing to generously give in exchange for this land grant.

The arrogance of American foreign policy is not lost on anyone.  John Kerry has readjusted his GPS and talks about “transition”.  Obama is livid with anger over the Russian deployments.  He wanted the situation to devolve into a full stalemate so that Assad could be eased out of office while ISIS controlled the area over which (or under which) the new gas pipeline from Iran would traverse.  Kerry went so far as to ludicrously posit that Russia’s propping up of Assad’s government would “prolong” the war – as though the United wanted something else besides prolonging the war.  Isn’t it ironic how Russia’s help in fighting ISIS has now become a sticking point?  I mean, shouldn’t Moscow want to fight ISIS while overthrowing Assad – just like the numskulls at Washington think tanks advocate?  Isn’t American foreign policy wonderful?  And, isn’t it ironic how the Russians see their presence at Tartous and Latakia as linked to the durability and longevity of the very young president of Syria?  Irony? Maybe.  ZAF

They should just reform the Soviet Union by force if necessary, because NATO didn’t follow the Warsaw Pact example into disarmament, and also the “independent” former states began to provocatively ask for NATO to expand on Russia’s doorstep. Hail Putin on his role in Russia. Is it true the Chinese are on the way too ?

Oh David! Before the military assault, Syria was subjected to extreme sanctions and political attacks. The Gulf monkeys practiced their best efforts at bribing Syrian officials to defect from and/or sabotage the government, state institutions, and the armed forces. Some took the paycheck and betrayed their nation. Good riddance to all of them. As President Assad stated, this was a test of who was committed to Syria and who was a chameleon. Next were the threats of international war crimes prosecution for those who remained with the government. Then there were the targeted assassinations of July 18, 2012 killing in… Read more »

So all the people over the past 2800 years that were convinced that End-of-Times prophecies were referring to contemporary events in their lifetime were wrong, but yours is the first generation to get it right? Here is another possibility. Prophecies represent the hopes, dreams and fears of a specific generation in the ancient past, and then are recycled by future generations to make themselves feel as if they are special in the grand scheme of history. Your grandchildren will be recycling the same prophecies 200 years from now, saying that it was obvious that people in the 21st century misread… Read more »

David, it’s the ultimate spiritual propaganda subjugation piece written by a race of deceivers to get the “lowly” Earthlings to accept Judaics as the “select, chosen ones” when in truth, they are Satan’s chief agents on this dimensional reality. I mean, what God, asks a man (Abraham) to sacrifice his only son (Isaac) to him? C’mon, a nimwit should even be able to see that it represents a demonic blood sacrifice to a sinister deity. Your worship of the falsifications of the Septuagint shows you are easily fooled. The Old Testament is a forged document put together by the propagandists of the Hebrew regime of old. Daniel Lazare expounded in Harper’s Magazine in 2002 that neither Abraham, Noah, Moses, the Exodus or King David ever existed. They were deliberate concoctions designed to enlarge the profile of the gaggle of the agricultural tribes of the Punic (Lebanese) hinterland, aka the Hebrews. For those who doubt Russia’s will and resolve, you only need to refer back to 2008 when Russia invaded Georgia to protect its interests in South Ossetia. It took all of FOUR DAYS for Russia to overwhelm Georgian resistance, despite Western backing. They (the Russians) have shown admirable patience in Syria, but when they make a decision, they are all in. Their military presence in Syria now is a sign that ISIS will soon be history. The NWO/zionist warmonger clowns are gnashing their teeth while experiencing full body seizures in fury and frustration, trying to figure out what to do… Read more »

With respect, the Russians have been all in from day one… they just chose to demonstrate they honor the principle of sovereignty and work within the boundaries granted to them by a very independent Syria. Please remember that it was (according to reliable ME sources), the Russians that shot down the first American missile strike in ‘retaliation’ for supposed gas attacks on their own population. Remember too the statement ‘an attack on Damascus is an attack on Moscow’. Remember too the price paid by Russia when it refused the American offer through Saudia Arabia for 10 billion in arms deals,… Read more »

Ziad, your appreciation of the history of Syrian independence is not quite correct. You make no mention of the fact that the British under Churchill were quite keen on Syrian independence – Churchill was always a supporter- indeed it was Churchill who caused Great Britain to recognise Syria in 1944 and finally clinched independence in 1945 when he put irresistable pressure on a reluctant de Gaulle to withdraw French troops from Damascus and all of Syria. Churchill had to tread carefully with the French in Syria.Remember, after 1941 it was the Free French controlling Syria- not a lot different from… Read more »

“English supporter”, nothing the British ever did was for Syria. The British and French secretly carved up the region during WWI (Sykes-Picot). But, when oil was discovered in Mosul, the Brits redrew the borders to remove it from French controlled Syria and moved into British controlled Iraq. The Brits elites only try to feather their own nests at the expense of others. The current conservative Cameron government still yearns for the days when the crown ruled most of the world. This is why they still engage in supporting the military evisceration of Syria.

Syria needs and should have sought all the help it can get from day one. There is no shame or dishonor in seeking help from allies. In fact without it you are likely to fail.
The Americans used the French help when they revolted against the British to get their independence. Without the allies, French resistance against nazis would have been wiped out.Allies and Russians helped each other in WWII
.Algerian revolution,Vietnam,Lebanese resistance..all would not have succeeded without the help of allies and friends. The examples in history are numerous.

In WW II the British played “divide et impera” with Germany and Soviet Union. Both have been allied before. When it looked like the Soviets are lost they stabilised them. If Germany would look like the loser they would have done opposite. In London they hosted gouvernments from Poland, Czechoslovakia etc. and end of WW I they meddled in the affairs of Russia everywhere. The British also played the French, “free” French against Vichy French. Algerie, Indochine, Lebanon/ Syria, all against French interest. There are endless examples in history and today in Syria they have dirty hands again.

Utter bollocks. Great Britain was favourable to the idea of an independent Syria from 1918.
It was a matter of getting there.
France dead against, US, Turkey also.
Remember, Saudi Arabia were not keen and initially assumed that Syria would be part of a Saudi ruled “Arabia”- not that the Syrians had any truck with the idea- as now.

Let’s not underestimate Russia’s help throughout the entire war. It was not knowing how Russia would respond that kept the U.S. and others from invading the country. It was the overt Turkish intervention in Aleppo and Idlib that finally “forced” Russia’s hand and sent the unmistakable message of her intent to protect the legitimate government in Damascus and its geopolitical interests in the region. Russia was essentially declaring the end of regime change with its bold and strategic move.

Sam, it seems all the news are coming from one source, debkafiles. There is no photo no nothing of this key vessel crossing the Suez, which would be its first…so highly unlikely. From Leith’s, he says there is no Chinese aircraft carrier in Tartous, only one Chinese Navy vessel arrived there, most likely with weapons supply. It is my understanding based on several reports available that CV-16 is still in trial phase, meaning China is using it to build the capability of a Navy battle group (its first), doing exercises inside South China Sea while it is also testing and… Read more »

Global Defense Journal New Flash: Are the Chinese about to join the fight against ISIS in Syria? According to several sources, the Chinese aircraft carrier Liaoning-CV-16 has docked at the Syrian port of Tartus, accompanied by a guided missile cruiser. The carrier was without its planes. Some analysts think the planes could follow up sometimes in November, transiting through Iran. Furthermore, Russian officers were spotted in Baghdad, Iraq, which could indicate the Russian action will not be restricted to Syria. Analysts predict Russian forces could target insurgents from the Russian federation (Chechnya, Caucasus ) in both Iraq and Syria, as… Read more »

A Chinese aircraft carrier docks at Tartus to support Russian-Iranian military buildup
DEBKAfile Exclusive Report September 26, 2015, 1:17 PM (IDT)

This turn of evens has a highly detrimental effect on Israel’s strategic and military position. It also strengthens Iran’s supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei in his determination to turn the nuclear deal concluded in July into a tool for isolating the US politically, militarily and economically in the Middle East, rather than a milestone on the road to a breakthrough in ties with Iran, as the Obama administration had hoped.

It is all well and good to be beat the Syrian nationalist “we don’t need any help” drums, but the reality is that America and its terrorist allies were about to make a major move on Syria with No-Fly Zones and God knows what else. The entire “Syrian Refugee Crisis” was obviously being used as a propaganda pretext for this America-led invasion. The endless coverage of this crisis by the Western media was meant to prepare public opinion for this “humanitarian” bombing and invasion–similar to Western propagaqnda campaigns about “a dictator killing his own people, “Iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction”… Read more »

It is difficult to see how the presence of 1,000 Chinese marines are going to improve this awful situation in Syria. You can be certain that China does not give a fig for Assad and is looking out only for itself. One question that you might ask is that after this is over, will the Chinese leave and will the Russians annex Syria as a protected colony? 1000 could be folks with special skills that could complement those on the front lines. Maybe they could bring in and operate ground penetrating radar to find the tunnels that enable the rats to hide in urban areas. This war could be over very quickly, cost effectively and with less damage to infrastructure and far less loss of Syrian lives if the tunnels can be eliminated. One has to wonder why those in charge are so negligent to do what is relatively easy and expedient.

Flanders, Shaykh Ahmad is the gateway to Kuweyres, the last map I think you shared placed the SAA quite close to the southern tip of this city, should it be taken then Kuweyres AB siege will be lifted, this is the spot that we will see a lot of bombing. On the other side, it was reported two days ago some fightings toward the highway Aleppo to Kuweyres, meaning maybe to enlarge the narrow spearhead toward Kuweyres. I suspect they want to do more then just to evacuate the base. Taking the highway Aleppo – Kuweires is a must for that. Not so sure that ISIS will put up that much resistance since they are going to get pounded hard by the RuAF. Also, Jarabulus is a lot more important for ISIS and the shelling by the Kurds has just started. Will be followed by heavy pounding from the socalled ‘Coalition’ and they plan to take the town within weeks.

Between 48 hrs and a week and Kuweires will be liberated.

I see it the other way around. The Anglo-American banking cabal–orignated by the Rothschilds but superceded by the American branch in the 20th century, which are mostly not Jewish–brought together the Mossad (involved in destruction of the twin towers), Saudis,, Pakistanis, the mainstream Ang-American media, elements of the military, FBI,CIA and other powerful assets. From the beginning, Zionism was prmoted by the Anglo bankers in particular so the West could occupy a strategic corner of the Middle East.

well the sauds are central in the war against Syria. So it does not help much if they counterweigh Iran – which anyway has helped Syria survive this .. so it sounds like nonsense

So them Syrians are bad. Russia always wanted to help, but “the very xenophobic Syrian Ba’ath leadership” didn’t want it…
Wow… Now we know it all. lol
Ziad is Syrian or Russian? He doesn’t have a Syrian perspective, he has a Russian perspective.

Nobody says Russia does this out of the goodness of their hearts.
In Russia there is actually a strong resistance among the people to engage in a war – goes all the way back to WW2.
But now Russia has no choice except to confront the Western made islamist menace before it comes to them.

Russian President Vladimir Putin: Who created ISIS?

Published on Sep 26, 2015

In 2014, President Obama named the three major threats to US national security; ISIS, Russia and Ebola (because spiraling national debt, unequal distribution of wealth, over-incarceration, climate change etc are less pressing issues.)

ANON–THANKS for putting this on this SITE as no one would have seen it.It is a shame that folks gave you so many dislikes as all you were doing WAS alerting ZIAD and others that there were some serious accusations out there.

There seem to be 2 major instigators-i sent Twitter a message on them.Hopefully Twitter will look into it.Do not know what they can do but they know about it.

Ziad, a masterful breakdown. It has long been my hunch that the SAA leadership were not so different from their ‘eternal-war’ opposite numbers in the Pentagon, in that they, being professional soldiers, grew inured to fighting, and focused on winning battles, rather than seeking a decisive annihilation of the enemy, in order to restore Syria’s security. This is no doubt a weakness of soldiers worldwide, and the cause of the saying, ‘War is too important to be left to generals’. Thus the slowness in adopting aerostats, drone surveillance, satellite analysis, etc, to prevent re-infiltration, which would have meant endless war… Read more »

No Syrian could share Dempsey/Kerry’s wish for a long war – the phenomenon you talk about has been the central bank empire’s strategy since the British empire. An economy dominated by the financial sector always loses out in straight economic competition, so it simply resorts to spreading chaos and hindering development in rivals.. this is why Brits had Mi6 and US has CIA: to sabotage real industrial economies, to divide, raise hell in short.. search f.ex memoirs of an economic hitman no need to blame this on any syrian. SAA should have been better prepared for such a war but… Read more »

Russia has deployed at least one Il-20 Coot spyplane to Syria http://theaviationist.com/2015/09/25/il-20-deployed-to-syria/ A frequent visitor of the international airspace over the Baltic has been deployed to Syria. Along with the 28 combat planes that have arrived at al-Assad International Airport via Iran hiding under Il-76 cargo planes last week, the Russian Air Force has deployed at least one Il-20 Coot surveillance plane to Syria. Even though satellite imagery has not yet unveiled its presence on an apron at the airfield near Latakia, an Il-20 Coot spyplane has already arrived in Syria to reinforce the Russian contingent, according to one of… Read more »

Flanders: The Axis are already sniveling about Russian military aircraft flying around with their transponders turned off and flying ‘near cargo aircraft’, so in the interests of flight safety maybe the Axis could keep its blow jobs out of Syrian airspace, and any of their cargo flights supplying IS as well. Additionally, I think I owe you an apology, because YPG has, apparently, crossed the Euphrates in enough force to prosecute an offensive on Jarabulus. I don’t know how they did it, and I don’t care, but if they’re that heavy west of the river now, they can do it… Read more »

YPG is used as some kind of auxiliary force. Motivated, but neither trained properly nor heavy armed, they do what they can. But, in war, that isn’t enough. ISIS gave them one hell of a beating in Kobane till… the coalition stepped in.

Jarabulus is essentialy an offensive by the coalition. They provide the intel, coordinate and pound ISIS with massive air power.

Flanders: The only reason the Axis stepped in at Kobane is because they thought that doing so was an entre into an opportunity to play the Kurds – – AGAIN. We do know that Axis aircraft overflew IS staging areas, equipment parks and convoys on the way to shoot up abandoned pickups, bomb vacant buildings and Syrian infrastructure in IS controlled territory; we do know that Axis cargo planes were seen, from Kobane, dropping weapons, ammunition and other supplies to IS (There were videos on youtube), and we also know that had Peshmerga not sent reinforcements to YPG from Iraq… Read more »
